The Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich is a center of competence for Swiss and international security policy. It offers security policy expertise in research, teaching, and consultancy and operates the International Relations and Security Network (ISN). www.css.ethz.ch. We are currently seeking a

Senior Researcher (80 – 100%)
to join the Risk and Resilience Team within the Center’s Think Tank.

You will advance expertise in cyber risk, cyber resilience or cyber security (including critical infrastructure protection). We are seeking a social scientist who is capable of conducting applied research and writing policy-relevant reports for the Swiss administration and other interested organisations, including those from the private sector. You will help to further the applied research focus on risk and resilience at the CSS, and build the international reputation of the Center by publishing your work in academic outlets, writing newspaper articles, and participating in national and international conferences. Teaching will not be a part of your responsibilities.

You have an advanced university degree (PhD), preferably in the social sciences. You should be able to demonstrate a capacity to work collaboratively within and beyond the social sciences. Completed PhD and several years of post-doctoral experience are required. Your high-level analytical skills are complemented preferably by expertise in the field of cyber-security, but experience with several of the Risk and Resilience Team’s fields of focus would be an asset. Excellent written and spoken English and German language skills are prerequisite. Knowledge of the Swiss political landscape is an advantage. You have an independent and well-organized working style, as well as good communication skills and the ability to work in an international team will be essential.
